Meta stock gained 4.5% yesterday on optimism about its new Muse AI agent but fell 3.4% today after Goldman Sachs warned that AI hyperscalers face profitability challenges. While hyperscalers are spending $800 billion this year and $1.1 trillion next year on capital investments, they need to generate $300 billion annually just to break even and $1 trillion annually for decent profits. Goldman suggests investors monitor earnings from AI service customers to gauge whether hyperscalers can achieve profitability.
Wells Fargo analyst Mike Mayo maintains Goldman Sachs Group (NYSE:GS) with a Overweight and lowers the price target from $1325 to $1175.
